I guess I am just having one of those days today, but I am wondering if I did the right thing by quitting my job. The money is not flowing in like it did for a while there. Can anyone tell me if the jobs always slow down this time of year, or am I just doing something wrong?

I don't think it's necessarily you (or anyone) doing anything "wrong" - it seems like there is an "ebb and flow" in WAH jobs, in some fields more than others. What types of work are you doing or looking to do?

I actually "tried" going back to a "day job" - I interviewed for another speech therapy job last month, which would have been a Monday - Friday, 8am-4pm job Image ... I had such anxiety about the idea of making that change, that I really didn't know what I would say if I was offered the job. Apparently I did NOT get the job, as I was supposed to hear earlier this month and have not heard a word.

I struggle with the desire to actually do speech therapy again (loved working with the kids!), but knowing that I do NOT want to work outside the home full time. It appears that it's just as well, going into the winter season here in Maine and rising cases of the flu (including swine flu) - and being in higher risk categories (due to having asthma and being overweight) - I will probably be safer and hopefully healthier staying here at home. Not only that - but I have acquired a couple of recent, higher-paying positions that will need the time commitment, anyway. AND ... I am now a doctoral candidate! Image (more on that in another thread!)

Actually I see jobs and hiring picking up but it depends on what you are searching for. I am not hampered by an over abundance of degrees (no offense) that would put potential employers off but I have been reading other boards with far more information on who is hiring. I would be looking around and asking questions. Best of luck.

Hey Jeff - no offense taken, and I know what you mean - in some jobs, employers/clients do NOT want to pay for the educational achievement and tell me I'm "overqualified" for a position ... however, in my preferred field (instructional design, curriculum development, and online instruction), I'm finding that the MINIMUM requirement is usually a master's degree, with a doctoral degree preferred. Hence my decision to move forward with pursuing this top degree.

Today I was scheduled for a telephone interview. Even though it didn't come off, it made me realize how stressful it would be to be having to have face to face interviews. If I had been considering going back to an office job, that would have thrown a lot of cold water on the idea.

I also wouldn't relish being a newbie again. It's not so bad being the newcomer in the WAH world. You don't have to learn the social environment along with the job or find the bathrooms and lunch room! All in all, I'm grateful to be able to work as I do and I hope I don't ever have to go back to 9:00 to 5:00.
