Do you keep any background noise on while you are working? I have tried it with the TV on and off, and when it is off, the noise is deafening but of course I get distracted while it is on.

You know Rhonda I think it just depends on the individual person. My husband can have loud music on and work just fine, in fact I think it soothes him. For me I prefer quiet as I can not seem to concentrate well at all with distractions. In fact if I am working and someone starts talking to me, I have to work at it not to feel irritated, but that is just one of my problems with the distraction thing. My Mom used to always turn the radio on first thing when her foot would touch the floor. She worked in our home as a beautician, I think she liked the company and of course to listen to the local happenings in our small town.

Just really what works best for you.

I used to keep the television on for company when I was working or playing at the computer, especially at night. Now I find it more annoying than comforting and I have no idea when the transition happened. The odd thing is, I like it on, just not yammering at me.

My husband sometimes will watch television or be listening to something on his computer when I'm working. If he keeps the television at a reasonable level it's easy for me to tune it out. His computer is a different matter. It's closer to me than the television and there are times when it's very distracting. Usually a glare in his direction takes care of things, though.
